Founded in 1992, Boland Bonsai Kai has grown from a small group of enthusiasts into a respected club known for its strong leadership, long-standing member involvement and instrumental role in developing the Western Cape Bonsai Heritage Collection. Our members work across a wide range of species and styles, with an increasing emphasis on indigenous trees and locally relevant bonsai practice.
We learn, share and refine our skills through tree demonstrations and discussions at monthly meetings. In addition to formal meetings, we have practical workshops hosted at private homes, where trees are worked on in a supportive, hands-on environment. The club regularly exhibits at regional and national events and has a proud tradition of hosting and participating in major bonsai shows.
Boland Bonsai Kai holds its monthly meetings on the last Saturday of every month at the Lutheran Church hall in Stellenbosch. Practical workshops are held monthly in Stellenbosch and Somerset-West. Newcomers and prospective members are encouraged to attend a meeting as guests to experience the club firsthand.
